So you’ve been thinking about using a a DIY website builder such as Wix and Squarespace or wondering if you should hire a professional web designer. We'll admit DIY website builders have become extremely good. So much so that you can start adding your home, about, and contact pages the same day you decide your domain name.
There are times when we would happliy recommend Squarespace or Wix to potential clients over using us. That being said, let’s go over when DIY site builders are not recommended.
Firstly to get the most important distinction out of the way, DIY website builders are not supposed to be a long-term investment.
They’re great when you need a website really fast and really cheap but you’re soon going to find yourself hitting your head against design & function limitations. £10/20 per month sounds great if its a short term project but over 5 years it could cost upto £1200.
Website builders give you all the tools to build a website just like Microsoft Word gives you all the tools to write the next great novel, but when was the last time you did that?
You could spend hours figuring out and building your site. And some more tweaking it. And then you may learn that your site is not working the way you wanted or portraying your business as you as you would like.
Maybe you have some images that need tweaking to fit and along comes a hefty Photoshop subscription.
Ok, our upfront fee is without doubt more but you can then spend your time actively promoting your business rather than pulling your hair out. So then, should you should consider hiring a web designer...?
